Collection – 1945 Catalog and Album from Afran Stamp Company (Manila). 20 pages detailing the various Japanese Occupation issues with space to mount the stamps. Contains 67 stamps (hinged) mostly mint with the odd used. No high values included. Interesting statistics provided. Folded vertically.

Article – Short article used for an early edition of the PPS Journal entitled ‘The Battle of Bataan Commemorated Philatelically’. Includes N8 (B/4) mint affixed to wax paper, N26, N36 and issues from Japan and the Republic period.

N29a (x2) – Used. Both with Official ‘KP’ Handstamps in black and purple. Light cancels on stamps with good to excellent margins. Scarce combination and not often found on this issue.

N32 – Used. Official ‘KP’ Handstamp in purple. Light cancel on generally sound stamp. Very minor blunt perfs noted for accuracy. Well centred with good colour. Difficult on this stamp.

N37 – Mint (NG, NH). Perforated Single. Centred slightly to bottom left. Minor toning around perfs. Mentioned by Garrett as being proofs looted from the vault of the Manila Central Post Office during the battle for the liberation of Manila. Very Scarce.

NB1-NB3 – Mint (OG). NB2 Light HR, others NH. Fresh set with good colour and well centred. NB3 with right margin selvedge.

NB8 – Mint (NG). Unissued Original Printing. Charred copy removing about one third of the sheet from bottom. Tears and minor holes also noted. Garrett states that these were salvaged from the vaults of the Bureau of Posts by American G.I.s during the battle for Manila in 1945. Only a very few copies were recovered fully intact. Very scarce.

N1 – Addressed FDC tied with Manila – March 4, 1942 – Post Your Mail Early slogan cancel. Purple boxed censor handstamp on bottom left of cover. Stamp affixed close to top right of cover which has a few minor tone spots. Generally clean.

N1, N14 – Cover from Manila to Pasig tied with ‘Manila – December 30, 1943 CDS. N14 cut on left side and minor toning noted. Purple boxed slogan on bottom left (Wikang Pambansa Natin ang Lagi Nating Gamitin – Always use our native language). Three types of this slogan known and only used during the 1943 Christmas period. Scarce.

N1 (x2), NJ1 (x2) – Cover originally affixed with two Japanese stamps cancelled with Tarlac – December 20, 1942 CDS. A fine censor mark (Garrett IC13) applied in red and ‘Postage Due 10 Cvos’ handstamp in purple also applied, most likely from authorities indicating the original stamps contravened postal regulations. Stamps applied and cancelled in Manila to cover the postage due. Possibly philatelic in nature, but very interesting and most likely unique.

N2, N6, N7 – Addressed FDC tied with Manila – April 30, 1943 CDS. Normal purple boxed censor handstamp on bottom of cover. Very clean and fresh, seldom offered so fine. Scarce.

N4 – Affixed to long cover to Pasay and tied with Manila – September 1, 1942 CDS. Circular ‘Philatelic Section, Money Order Division’ handstamp on left. Type 1A Censor marking where the first and third ‘kanji’ in the second line of the censor handstamp are reversed in error. This handstamp was only in use for two months until the error was eventually detected. Creasing on corners and right side and small cut on left side. Very Scarce and seldom encountered.

N4 – Two matching covers from Iloilo to Manila both tied with Iloilo CDS. One cover with fine Iloilo purple boxed handstamp Censor mark (Garrett #IB5), with the other showing Manila censor. Roughly opened on left and one cover with minor tear on right, not affecting the stamps. Very scarce usage.

N12, N15 – Addressed provincial FDC to Mabolo, Cebu City, tied with Cebu CDS. Blue-Green circular cachet on right and Cebu black rectangular handstamp censor on bottom right (Garrett #IA5) Very scarce usage and seldom offered.

N16 – Kramer Forgery. Stamp and cover are genuine but postmark and censor mark are both forgeries produced by Kramer. Very fine and clean cover and quite sought after by collectors.

N26 (B/4) – Addressed FDC tied with Legaspi cancel on stamps as well as an additional strike on left side. Scarce Legaspi censor purple boxed censor handstamp (Garrett Type IA7). Very heavy toning around stamps but scarce Legaspi cancels.

Gunji Yubin Card – N32a-N34a FDC – Beautiful card issued by the Rikugun-Juhin-Honsho in Japan and printed in Tokyo. This is a view of Hangchau, in Central China. Distributed by the Army QM Depot to the expeditionary troops in different territories and this one was used as a FDC for N32a-N34a as tied and cancelled on the back of the card. Very scarce and seldom offered

N1 on AFF Postal Card #1 – This card was only issued during the Japanese Occupation. Tie with ‘Constitution Day – September 7, 1944 – Manila’ CDS. Text on reverse deals with penalties to members offering various KP and provisional Kalayaan covers. Scarce postal card and seldom offered

NUX1 – Postal Card addressed to Pablo Esperidion tied with Manila – August 9, 1943 CDS. Postal Savings Bank slogan on left. Back notation stating ‘for collectors purposes only’. With scarce Short Dividing Line Variety. Minor toning on two corners on the back from corner mounts, otherwise a nice looking card.

Proper purple boxed censor handstamp with ‘P Antonio’ oblong red handstamp along side (possibly handstamp of the censoring officer). Minor toning ton top centre otherwise a sound and very scarce item.
